Exploring Iligan with AirAsia Chasing Wonders

Domestic and foreign tourist can now explore Iligan City with AirAsia’s low-cost carrier that has recently relaunched its new flights going to Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.

The airport serves the city of Cagayan De Oro and Iligan City as well as the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Lanao Del Norte, and Bukidnon in Northern Mindanao. The main airport is 57 kilometers from Iligan City.

AirAsia has also launched its new campaign in promoting the best destinations in our country where it flies, dubbed as “Chasing Wonders.”

The campaign aims to discover new places in the province and at the same time, continue to highlight the top tourist spots not only to Filipinos but to foreigners as well.

After an hour travel from Laguindingan Airport the staff and videographer of AirAsia chasing wonders arrived in Iligan City and was received by Counselor Ryan Ong, Ms. Nicollete de la Cruz Iligan City Tourism Acting Officer, Mr. Lamberto Macapagal, City Tourism Coordinator and Christian T.N. Aguado, Ethnic Center Administrator and Curator at the Ethnic Center, City Hall Complex, Iligan City last Sunday. August 19.

Macapagal expressed his gratitude to AirAsia chasing wonders crew for choosing Iligan City as part of their documentary in showcasing the people’s culture, nature, and food. “Hindi kayo nag-kamali (you have not made a mistake), Iligan is the best place! “He noted.

AirAsia team were treated with a Pagana de Maranao special lunch buffet and were entertained by the Kalimulan Cultural Dance troupe as part of the Pagara De Maranao tradition.

Among the highlights of AirAsia chasing wonders in visiting Iligan, is for them to experience and observe the Pagana de Maranao that will be included in their beautiful storyline and to explore our culture, food and natural wonders and Iligan’s top tourist spots for domestic and foreign tourist to visit.

Pagana de Maranao are foods offered to guest in a special Maranao dishes and the way of serving is distinctively according to their tradition.

As stated by Professor Christian T.N. Aguado,
the Etnic Center Administrator and Curator, a grand pagana is also a lavish affair. Guests are entertained with traditional performances like the kasagayan(a war dance), kapamalong (a dance showing different ways of wearing a malong, a tubular piece of cloth), and singkil (a dance where dancers step through clashing bamboo poles in gracious and intricate moves accompanied by the music of the kulintang, a brass gong ensemble.
