ILIGAN CITY – A Health Summit was held at Robinson’s Place yesterday Oct.15.

It was jointly organized by DOH 10, CHO-ILIGAN and DILG-ILIGAN with the theme: “Kalimpyo sa Dakbayan Responsibilidad Natong Tanan.”

Health personnel of the LGU including Barangay Midwives, Barangay Health Workers and Officials led by the Barangay Captains were the participants

The Speakers led by Mayor Celso Regencia took turns discussing Cleanliness from different angles.

Regencia and DILG dealt on Cleanliness in compliance to DILG Memorandum.

The Mayor warned that the Barangay Captains can be removed for non-compliance.

Meanwhile, the other Speakers concentrated on what diseases could result in dirty surroundings.

Dingue, Ascaris and other parasites could enter the human body in unclean surroundings. Polio as earlier reported in Lanao del Sur was due to Open Defecation. All households are required to have toilets to achieve Zero Open Defecation (ZOD) as Polio is carried by flies that alight on human feces and step on food eaten by people.

Generally cleanliness was the goal of the summit to achieve good health for the people of Iligan.

Barangays Villa Verde and Santo Rosario were declared to have achieved ZOD. (Francisco Dosdos)
