Marawi Launches 64th Malasakit Center

Sen. Christopher Lawrence “ Kuya Bong “Go led the launching of the 64th Malasakit Center on Friday the 21st of February, 2020, located at Amai Pak Pak Medical Center (APMC), Marawi City.

 Go was joined by Senators Ronald dela Rosa, Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino, and Juan Miguel Subiri, Marawi Mayor Majul Gandamra, Governor Mamintal Adiong and Dr. Shalimar Sani Rakiin, Amai Pakpak Medical Chief II.

Malasakit Center is a one -stop shop for all government medical and financial assistance for all Filipinos, particularly the poor and indigent patient, it aims to bring down to the lowest amount possible, if not zero balance billing for poor hospital patients.

During the launching, Kuya Bong shares the concept of how the Malasakit Center started back when President Rodrigo Duterte was still the Mayor in Davao. This was created for the love of Filipinos both Muslims and Cristian’s. He added that Duterte would like to make Filipinos life easier. “Previously, the indigent and poor people had to go to various government agencies and line up for hours or for days in asking for financial health assistance.”

“Now, the Malasakit Center will answer for it, the DSWD, PCSO, DOH and Philhealth, through these agencies that are stationed at the Malasakit Center will help provide services.” Bong added.

Sen. Go is a known public health advocate. As the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, the senator filed on July proposed health measures, including the institutionalization of the Malasakit Center program, the improvement of Philippine nursing education, and a bill expanding the coverage of the Mandatory Basic Immunization Program to improve the country’s healthcare system.

Meanwhile, Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra during the opening of the Malasakit Center expressed his appreciation that the Malasakit Center is now a law, and Marawi City has been accredited as one of the beneficiaries.

“This will provide medical assistance to the poorest population of the city in partnership with the agencies of the Malasakit Center.” Gandamra said.

 APMC Medical Chief, Dr. Shalimar Sani Rakiin says that Amai Pakpak Medical Center is fortunate to have been chosen by President Duterte and Sen. Bong Go as host of the Malasakit Center. “The center is of great help for Marawi City and Lanao Del Sur and even in Lanao Del Norte. With the zero billing balance for the poor and indigent, admitted patient will no longer be bothered by hospital payments.” She added.

Dr. Shalimar lauded Bong Go through President Duterte who had supported APMC by extending financial health aid last 2019 in the amount of 10M for the poor and indigent patient at Amai Pakpak Medical Center.

 At the launching, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino turned over a check of 5M to Dr. Sani Rakiin, as an initial fund for the operations of the Malasakit Center. Accordingly, the amount will be replenished monthly.

The Malasakit Center in APMC is the 64th Malasakit Center in the country and is the first in Lanao Del Sur. # now-pinay
