Iligan City_ Members of the Priest’s Council with the Clergy in the City and City Health officers, after a thorough evaluation on the present threat of NCOV 19, decided to suspend indefinitely liturgical celebrations starting March 15, 2020 until further notice.
“This decision has been difficult for us but because of our moral obligation of the church in unity towards the government efforts to ward off the threat of COVID 19, I have arrived to make a decision for the suspension of masses of the Diocese of Iligan and Lanao del Norte.” Most. Rev. Jose R. Rapadas III stated.
Rapadas noted that there are precautionary measures given if we wish to get together but it’s not easy to comply putting into consideration the limited supplies.
“In addition, we may not be aware of persons we have come in contact that may be infected by the corona virus even if symptoms has not yet been detected and at the same time it will be of great risk for congregants.”
“We believe that the suspension of mass is of great help to contain local transmission of COVID 19.” Rapadas III disclosed.
Bishop Rapadas advised everyone to stay home while parish priest are required to offer masses in private and that churches, chapels and prayer rooms will remain open for those who wish to offer prayers especially at this time of anxiety in the midst of the current crises.
“The social communication ministries has arranged for live broadcast mass.” He added.
Meanwhile, despite the suspension of holy masses and other church activities with the corona virus decease being a threat, a scheduled baptismal was conducted today Sunday with limited guest at St. Michael’s Cathedral. (now-pinay)
