Davao tourism stakeholders’ inclusion to inject several sports activities in the annual summer fun festival (previously known as Visit Davao Fun Sale) , handsomely paid off when the festival was named Event of the Year (Domestic) in the 2016/17 Philippine Sports Tourism Awards (PSTA) held recently.
At the award presentation ceremony held at the Savoy Hotel Manila, Charles Lim, founder of PSTA cited the Davao event organizers for holding the Durianman Triathlon and the Mt Apo Boulder Face Challenge as part of the annual event.
” We wish to recognize the bold and creative efforts put in by the organizers in infusing sports events into a tourism event to draw tourists to the region, ” commented Lim in congratulating the winner.
In receiving the award, Ms Tessa Piansay, executive director of Visit Davao Summer Festival thanked PSTA for the recognition and honor given to Davao and the support rendered by the Davao City Tourism Office and the Department of Tourism Regional Office.
The PSTA saw the iconic Ironman 70.3 inspired event held in Cebu, runaway with several top awards including Organizer of the Year (Sunrise Events, Inc), International Event of the Year (Ironman 70.5 Asia Pacific Championship), Event Sponsorship of the Year (Century Tuna Ironman) and Hotel of the Year (Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.
Other awardees include Subic Bay as Destination of the Year;
